Cheers Alan. I knew I'd missed someone out - completely forgot about Diop.

I'll repost part of my two Pennyworth below.

Thanks Alan, nothing nice about Diop going though

I was like to seasoned PL striker like Giroud coming in

Re: January Transfer rumours and gossip
I think most will agree that these positions are the priorities:

STRIKER - just about all of us have given up on the idea of Haller coming good, so this has to be the absolute top priority.

MIDFIELDER - no injuries yet to Rice or Soucek, but we all know it's a matter of "when" rather than "if". With only the ageing Noble and Snodgrass as cover, it's clear that we need another option. Rather than getting someone who would just be seen as cover or a squad player, it would be great if we got someone who could pretty much walk into the side - an all-round pacey midfielder who could play in the no.10 role but also cover as a DM for Rice or Soucek if needed. This would push Benrahma out to left sided forward in place of Fornals, who would need to become more of a squad player.

LB/LWB - even if Masuaku fully recovers from his operation, we need someone new in this position. Much as I rate young Longelo as one for the future, I don't think he's ready yet. Again, we could just get someone in as cover, but better to get someone good enough to edge Cresswell out of the side and give us that bit of extra security down the left when playing a back four.

GK - Fabianski isn't getting any younger and Randolph is generally not seen as strong enough to take over. For me the positions above are much bigger priorities and this can wait until the summer.

Possible outgoings:

Haller
Diop
Holland

Haller is obviously the priority here. A few German clubs and Monaco are rumoured to be interested and we will clearly have to take a big loss, but he has to go. Diop is an interesting one - stick or twist. Holland is not a youngster any more and has no chance of making the first team so a loan to the Championship would make sense. I don't think Moyes will be looking to shift anyone else but if we get good offers for Yarmolenko, Fredericks, Lanzini or Snodgrass, we could be seeing a bit more action. Unlikely though.

Graziano Pelle linked with us.

35 year old and out of contract.

Sounds like us.

Re: January Transfer rumours and gossip
I haven't written off Haller. The period he's been out of form is far less than the period that players like Ogbonna or Cresswell were out of form. People forget that they had written off Creswell at the beginning of the season.

That said, he's pretty useless leading the line. His real position is second striker to someone like Antonio. Given Antonio's injury problems, we should be looking for another striker who can lead the line.

That's all I think we'll buy. I doubt we'll have any more money to spend.

Cheers as always Alan.

Might want to pop Josh King on the rumoured ins? IMO that will be the only business we do and even that will rely on getting one or two out on loan and Bournemouth offering a generous installment plan.

Good point about Ogbonna. In the case of Cresswell it's a little different though. He was written off by most as a left back and tbh I still think he should be written off in that role even though he did well coming forward in that position last night. Over a run of games he is not up to being part of a 4-4-2. He lacks the turn of pace and physicality to deal with some of the wide men and forwards in the Premiership and struggles to prevent crosses etc. coming in.

January is about getting a viable back up for Antonio.

Re: January Transfer rumours and gossip
Fair point, but if you'd said at the beginning of the season that you were going to revitalise Creswell's career by converting him into a centreback, no one would have believed you. Or even taken you seriously.

Likewise, there will be plenty who will argue that playing Haller as a second striker won't make any difference to how effective he is.

I think it's worth a shot, rather than continuing the "buy high, sell low" transfer pattern we seem to follow.

Re: January Transfer rumours and gossip
I could be wrong, but I suspect that Moyes, being Scottish hates ... cough ... wasting money.

He'd rather make the best of what he has than take a £20m haircut.

Re: January Transfer rumours and gossip
Have to say, I like that Darby.
And let’s face it, this time round Moyes has not put a foot wrong with his buys and made some great signing.

West Brom keeper looks decent, playing in absolutely shit team.

Re: January Transfer rumours and gossip
Josh King on the bench for Bournemouth tonight. They obviously want to sell him this month, otherwise he's a freebie in the summer. He doesn't convince me he's the answer to our 'Haller' problem.
Stanislas has just put Bournemouth 1-0 ahead. I wonder how much he would cost?!

King has just come on for the last few minutes. He will probably break his leg.

Luka Jovic
In a swap for Haller.
Real want a bigger striker.
Jovic needs a fresh start as does Haller.

Why is Milik only valued at £10m? Seems quite cheap.

Re: January Transfer rumours and gossip
The best bit of business we could do is to take Brentford’s scout . We would save a shedload of money getting decent players in for a pittance that would also have good resale value.

the exile 2:04 Sun Jan 3
Re: January Transfer rumours and gossip
twoleftfeet - most valuations for Milik are a bit higher than that, but still relatively cheap because he's coming up to the end of his contract.

Hmm....done ACL in both knees and in dispute with his club.
